تُعد المدينة القديمة في مراكش، المدرجة ضمن مواقع التراث العالمي لليونسكو، متاهة كثيفة من الأسواق والرياضات والقصور خلف أسوار من الحجر الرملي الأحمر، وتتمحور حول ساحة جامع الفنا الشهيرة. وخارج المدينة القديمة مباشرة، تضيف منطقة گليز الأحدث مطاعم ومعارض ومحلات تسوق عصرية.

تختزل مراكش الكثير مما يجذب الزوار إلى المغرب، من العمارة التاريخية والتسوق في الأسواق وضيافة الرياضات، وصولًا إلى سهولة الوصول إلى جبال الأطلس والصحراء.

• Wander the souks of the medina and Jemaa el-Fnaa at both midday and after sunset; the square transforms at night with food stalls and performers.
• Visit the Bahia Palace and Ben Youssef Madrasa for Moroccan tilework and courtyard architecture.
• Spend a morning at the Jardin Majorelle and its Yves Saint Laurent museum.
• Take a day trip into the Atlas Mountains (Imlil or Ourika Valley) for a change of pace from the city.

March–May and late September–November avoid the extreme summer heat, when daytime temperatures regularly exceed 38°C (100°F).

A riad (traditional courtyard guesthouse) inside the medina is the classic Marrakech stay and puts you within walking distance of the souks. Gueliz offers more conventional hotels and is quieter at night.

The Medina (old city, souks and riads), Gueliz (modern city, restaurants and shopping), and the Hivernage district (resort-style hotels) are the three areas most visitors base themselves in.

Marrakech Menara Airport is a short taxi ride from the medina. Within the city, the medina is best explored on foot (cars can't enter most of it); petit taxis and ride-hailing apps cover longer hops to Gueliz or the airport.

Jemaa el-Fnaa's night food stalls are a Marrakech institution for grilled meats, snail soup, and fresh orange juice. For a sit-down meal, look for riad restaurants serving tagine and pastilla away from the most touristed streets for better value.

The Ourika Valley and Imlil (Atlas Mountains) are popular half- and full-day trips. Essaouira, a laid-back Atlantic coastal town, makes a good full-day or overnight trip (about 2.5 hours each way).

A mid-range riad stay with breakfast, meals, and local transport typically runs $70–120/day per person; budget travelers using hostels and street food can get by on $30–40/day.

Agree on a price before getting into a petit taxi if the meter isn't used. In the souks, an opening offer is expected to be negotiated down. Riads are often hidden behind unmarked doors; save your accommodation's exact directions, since addresses alone rarely work with GPS in the medina.
