Iberia
Iberia is the flag carrier of Spain and a member of the oneworld alliance. Part of International Airlines Group (IAG) alongside British Airways, it runs its hub at Madrid-Barajas, from where it connects Spain and Europe with one of the largest networks to Latin America of any European airline.
Hub and network
Most Iberia flights operate from Terminal 4 at Madrid-Barajas, including its satellite T4S for non-Schengen flights. Some regional routes are operated for Iberia by Air Nostrum under the Iberia Regional brand, and flights sold by Iberia may also be operated by partners such as Vueling or LEVEL, whose baggage rules differ.
Baggage allowance
From Iberia’s official hand luggage page:
- Economy and Premium Economy: one bag up to 10 kg and 56 x 40 x 25 cm in the overhead locker.
- Business: one bag up to 14 kg of the same size; on intercontinental flights, two pieces of up to 14 kg each (one piece only on flights from the US).
- All cabins: one personal item up to 30 x 40 x 15 cm (handbag, small backpack or laptop bag) under the seat.
- Iberia Regional Air Nostrum flights: your 10 kg bag is handed in at the aircraft door and carried in the hold.
- Liquids: containers of up to 100 ml in one clear bag, 1 litre in total.
Checked baggage depends on your fare and route and is shown in your booking. If another airline operates your flight, its rules apply.
Check-in
From Iberia’s check-in information:
- Online check-in generally opens 24 hours before departure, and boarding passes can be obtained online until 1 hour before departure (longer for a few airports).
- Airport counters and bag drop: arrive at least 45 minutes before departure; at Madrid T4S the baggage deadline is 55 minutes.
Seats, meals and onboard service
Long-haul flights include meals and drinks in every cabin. On short- and medium-haul flights the Economy offer depends on route and fare. Seat selection options depend on your fare and status and are shown in Manage your booking.
Changes, cancellations and refunds
Change and refund rules depend on the fare. Manage changes on iberia.com or in the Iberia app. On flights covered by EU rules you may be entitled to rebooking or a refund, care and possibly compensation: see the EU passenger rights portal.
Practical tips
- Check the operating airline on your booking: Vueling, LEVEL or Air Nostrum flights have their own baggage handling.
- Allow time at Madrid T4. T4S is reached by an underground train; see our Madrid-Barajas guide.
