Qatar Airways is the national airline of Qatar and a member of the oneworld alliance. Its network is built around one hub, Hamad International Airport in Doha, which makes it a natural choice for journeys between Europe or the Americas and the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia with a single change of plane.

Hub and network

Almost all Qatar Airways itineraries connect at Hamad International Airport (DOH), a single-terminal airport designed for transfers. As a oneworld member, Qatar Airways shares lounge access and frequent-flyer benefits with partners such as British Airways for eligible members. Its loyalty programme is Privilege Club.

Baggage allowance

From Qatar Airways’ official allowance page:

  • Carry-on, Economy: one piece up to 7 kg (10 kg on Brazil flights).
  • Carry-on, Business and First: two pieces, up to 15 kg in total.
  • Maximum carry-on size: 50 x 37 x 25 cm.
  • Checked bags depend on your fare family. On most routes the allowance is a total weight (for example 20 kg on Economy Lite, 25 kg on Economy Classic, rising with higher fares and in Business and First). On flights to or from Africa and the Americas it is counted in pieces (for example one 23 kg bag on Economy Lite, two on Economy Classic).
  • No single checked bag may weigh more than 32 kg.

Privilege Club and oneworld elite members may receive extra allowance depending on tier and route. If your journey mixes cabins, the higher cabin’s allowance applies to the whole trip.

Check-in

You can check in online or in the app ahead of departure and choose seats there if your fare allows it; airport counters are also available. The exact opening and closing times for online and airport check-in vary by airport, so confirm them in Manage Booking for your flight. Departing from the US, TSA rules limit you to one carry-on plus one personal item.

Seats, meals and onboard service

Meals and drinks are included on Qatar Airways flights. Business Class on many long-haul aircraft uses the Qsuite seat with a closing door, but aircraft vary by route, so check the seat map for your flight. Whether advance seat selection is included depends on the fare family.

Changes, cancellations and refunds

Each fare family has its own change and refund rules, shown before you pay. Cheaper Lite fares are the most restrictive. For changes, use Manage Booking or the Qatar Airways help centre; optional fees are listed on the optional services and fees page.

Practical tips

  • Read your fare family carefully. The difference between Lite and Classic is often a checked bag and more flexibility, which can be worth the price difference.
  • Use the transfer time. Our Hamad International Airport guide covers transfers, facilities and getting into Doha.
  • Thinking of a stopover? Check the entry requirements on our Qatar guide before planning time in the city.
  • Measure the carry-on. At 50 cm long, the maximum is a little shorter than many “standard” cabin cases.
