Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is the main gateway to Marrakech and one of Morocco’s busiest airports, located about 6 km south-west of the medina. It handles domestic flights and a large number of international routes, especially from Europe, operated by full-service and low-cost airlines including Royal Air Maroc, Ryanair, easyJet and Air Arabia.

Terminals and airlines

The airport has two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, located in the same complex. Airlines are assigned to a terminal, so check your booking and the airport’s departure screens.

Recent changes at the airport

  • Traffic growth: according to Mรฉdias24 (November 2024), the airport handled 7.6 million passengers in the first ten months of 2024, up 35% on 2023, with more than 32 airlines serving it.
  • Waiting times: in November 2024 ONDA announced measures including an enlarged passport-control waiting area for arrivals, a dedicated circuit for domestic passengers and a new arrivals hall intended to double arrivals processing capacity, with the aim of cutting waits to one hour and eventually 30 minutes.
  • Departure areas: in April 2025, ONDA redesigned the airport’s access and departure zones, with new drop-off areas, new signage and direct access to terminals by airline (Telquel).

Transit and connections

Most passengers start or end their journey in Marrakech. Domestic connections, for example via Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc, are possible on one ticket. If you combine separate tickets, leave a generous margin for passport control and baggage; our Layover Planner can help.

Passenger facilities

The terminals offer cafรฉs, shops, duty-free and currency exchange. Services vary by terminal; check with your airline or the airport operator for current information.

Rules and services checked against official sources in October 2026. Airlines and airports change their policies, fares and services regularly: always confirm the details for your own booking on the official pages linked here before you travel.

Traveler Information

  • Allow time for passport control on arrival. Queues at Marrakech have at times been long at peak periods; ONDA has introduced measures to reduce waiting times (see below).
  • Check your terminal on your booking or the departures screens before you go to the airport.
  • Carry some dirhams for the taxi; the Moroccan dirham is a closed currency, so plan how you will get it on arrival.
