TAP Air Portugal is Portugal’s flag carrier and a member of Star Alliance. From its hub in Lisbon it connects Europe with Brazil, North America and Portuguese-speaking Africa, which makes it a common choice for transatlantic trips with a stop in Portugal. Its loyalty programme is TAP Miles&Go.

Hub and network

Most TAP flights operate from Lisbon Airport (LIS), with additional flights from Porto. As a Star Alliance member, TAP can be combined with partners such as Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.

Baggage allowance

From TAP’s official hand baggage page:

  • Economy and Economy Prime: one item of hand baggage up to 55 x 40 x 25 cm and 10 kg.
  • Business: two items on flights to or from Europe, Africa, South America and domestic routes; one item on flights to or from North America.
  • Personal item in addition, free: up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm and 2 kg, under the seat in front.
  • Infants under 2 have no hand baggage of their own; the accompanying adult may carry one item of essential baby care products.

Checked baggage depends on your fare and route and is shown in your booking.

Check-in

Online check-in opens 36 hours before departure (24 hours for flights to and from the USA), according to TAP’s check-in page. After checking in online, take hold bags to the drop-off desk at the airport. Passengers needing special assistance, travelling with animals or with extra seats must check in at the airport.

Seats, meals and onboard service

Long-haul flights include meals in every cabin. Seat choice in advance depends on your fare; seats can be chosen during check-in.

Changes, cancellations and refunds

Fare conditions determine changes and refunds. On flights covered by EU rules, you may be entitled to rebooking or a refund, care and possibly compensation: see the EU passenger rights portal.
