Leonardo da Vinciโ€“Fiumicino Airport is Rome’s main international airport and Italy’s largest, near the coast west of the city. It is the hub of ITA Airways and is served by most major European and long-haul airlines, as well as low-cost carriers such as Wizz Air.

Terminals and airlines

Passenger flights use the airport’s main terminal areas, with Schengen and non-Schengen departures handled in separate areas and piers. Airline allocations change, so check your terminal on your booking or the airport’s flight information before you leave.

Transit and connections

When connecting between a Schengen and a non-Schengen flight you pass passport control, which can be busy at peak times. On separate tickets, you will need to collect bags and check in again. Plan with our Layover Planner.

Passenger facilities

The terminals offer shops, restaurants, lounges and a chapel. Check the Aeroporti di Roma website for current services and opening hours.

Official links

Rules and services checked against official sources in October 2026. Airlines and airports change their policies, fares and services regularly: always confirm the details for your own booking on the official pages linked here before you travel.

Traveler Information

  • Validate regional train tickets before boarding where required.
